Psalms 73

The End of the Wicked Contrasted with That of the Righteous.

A Psalm of Asaph.

1 God certainly is agood to Israel,
To those who are bpure in heart!
2 But as for me, cmy feet came close to stumbling,
My steps
Lit were caused to slip
had almost slipped.
3 For I was eenvious of the
Or boasters
arrogant
As I saw the gprosperity of the wicked.
4 For there are no pains in their death,
And their belly is fat.
5 They are hnot
Lit in the trouble of people
in trouble like other people,
Nor are they jtormented together with the rest of mankind.
6 Therefore arrogance is ktheir necklace;
The lgarment of violence covers them.
7 Their eye
Lit goes forth
bulges from nfatness;
The imaginations of their heart overflow.
8 They omock and
Or they speak in wickedness; From on high they speak of oppression
wickedly speak of oppression;
They qspeak from on high.
9 They have rset their mouth
Or in
against the heavens,
And their tongue
Lit walks
parades through the earth.

10 Therefore
Or His
his people return here,
And vabundant waters are drunk by them.
11 They say, “ wHow does God know?
And is there knowledge
Lit in
with the Most High?”
12 Behold, ythese are the wicked;
And always zat ease, they have increased in wealth.
13 Surely aain vain I have
Or cleansed my heart
kept my heart pure
And acwashed my hands in innocence;
14 For I have been stricken adall day long,
And
Lit my punishment
,
afpunished every morning.

15 If I had said, “I will speak this way,”
Behold, I would have betrayed the aggeneration of Your children.
16 When I ahthought of understanding this,
It was
Lit labor, trouble
troublesome in my sight
17 Until I entered the
Lit sanctuaries
,
aksanctuary of God;
Then I perceived their alend.
18 You indeed put them on amslippery ground;
You dropped them into
Or deception
,
aoruin.
19 How they are
Lit become a desolation
,
aqdestroyed in a moment!
They are utterly swept away by arsudden terrors!
20 Like a asdream when one awakes,
Lord, when atstirred, You will audespise their image.

21 When my avheart was embittered
And I was awpierced
Lit in my kidneys
within,
22 Then I was aystupid and ignorant;
I was like an azanimal
Lit with You
before You.
23 Nevertheless bbI am continually with You;
You have taken hold of my right hand.
24 You will bcguide me with Your plan,
And afterward bdreceive me
Or with honor
to glory.

25 bfWhom do I have in heaven but You?
And with You, I desire nothing on earth.
26 My bgflesh and my heart may fail,
But God is the
Lit rock
strength of my heart and my biportion forever.
27 For, behold, bjthose who are far from You will bkperish;
You have destroyed all those who
Lit go to a whoring from
,
bmare unfaithful to You.
28 But as for me, bnthe nearness of God is good for me;
I have made the Lord
Heb YHWH, usually rendered Lord
God my bprefuge,
So that I may bqtell of all Your works.
